Michael’s experience is focused on the development and application of quantum control to help partners extract maximum performance from quantum technologies. The solutions he has developed through his startup Q-CTRL serve teams building quantum hardware for both quantum sensing and quantum computing, as well as end-users seeking to put quantum computing to work for them.

Michael has a proven track record of success developing and managing major quantum technology R&D initiatives within government, academia, and industry, as well as crafting policy at national and international levels to support the sector. He is experienced in US government science and technology agencies including strategic and technical advisory to DARPA, developing beyond-leading-edge R&D programs across multiple domains.

Michael’s current commercial efforts leading the venture-capital-backed Q-CTRL are supported by experience in a Big-Three management consulting firm. Under his leadership Q-CTRL has become a global commercial success, having raised both the world’s largest Series B for a software focused quantum tech company, and having secured the first ever OEM software integration into a major cloud QC platform with IBM. In addition Q-CTRL was announced as a major provider of quantum assured sensing solutions to the AUKUS trilateral defense partnership.

Michael is a proficient networker and communicator with demonstrated ability to build connections with key stakeholders across academia, the corporate sector, and government. In speaking engagements, Michael presents an inspirational message about how the future of technology is about to dramatically change, grounded in his role as a practicing scientist at the leading edge of human capability.
